Coming back to my blog. Coming back to all things social as well, after a festive break. This holiday season I intentionally decided to log off (and delete) my main social media accounts for a month to fully disconnect from the regular mindless scrolling to be more present with myself, my family, my friends and things that matter truly. To break unhealthy patterns and habits that I allowed in my life and to connect and engage with other activities.
As expected it was not easy for the first few days. My brain was constantly looking to fill "gaps" throughout the day with IG and get a dopamine boost. But soon (in about a week) the automatism was no longer active and new activities took it's place.
Also, "surprisingly" I found I have more time in the evening that I did not have before. More time for reading, self care, sorting out my digital storage, journaling, talking to friends, sleeping, organizing drawers, cooking, playing games and so on.
Yes, I did miss an event or two and also managed to slide by a friend that was in the same area as me but, hey, the quality of my presence, the time I spent actively involved with others & myself, the actual rest & ease I felt, outweigh by far being on the grid. I am not stating any new news but leaving my experience here in case anyone needs any reminder.
What I did realise however is, that the festive period turns out to be my favourite part of the year. Have no idea if this is a new thing or if I just came to realise it now. With the intention to take more social media hiatuses in the future I will for sure, have more time to ponder on this personal discovery.
Stay true and present to what matters most to you this year. And always 💚
